Jeremy Davis-Turak Ph.D

VP of BioInformatics

Jeremy earned his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology in the lab of Dr. Alexander Hoffmann at UCSD, researching kinetic models of co-transcriptional splicing.  In his studies, Dr. Davis-Turak developed analyses for RNA-seq, nascent RNA-seq, GRO-seq and MNase-seq that were intimately linked with mechanistic models.  He set up the Bioinformatics Core at the San Diego Center for Systems Biology, optimizing pipeline for RNA-seq and ChIP-seq.

Dr. Davis-Turak also has extensive experience analyzing gene expression data from his time working in the Neurogenetics Laboratory at UCLA, where he became an expert in the analysis of Microarrays, Weighted Gene Coexpression Network Analysis, pathways analyses, gene set enrichment and motif analysis. His ambitious goal of enabling researchers without programming experience to ask quantitative questions led to the development of web portals featuring tools to query relational databases of expression data (microarray and sequencing) and perform on-the-fly computational analyses.

Angel Stanz

VP of Software Engineering

Angel Stanz joins OnRamp with over 20 years of entrepreneurial experience in software engineering and media marketing. This combination of interests provides him with a unique management style for bridging the chasm that often separates technology development and sales channels. Mr. Stanz's impact to dot com startups began by serving as Sr. R&D Engineer for ATCOM/INFO ushering in the "Wi-Fi Lifestyle", co-developing the technology behind hospitality internet access solutions that have now become an expected amenity for business travelers worldwide. This venture was supported by strategic investment from KKR and a partnership with Microsoft, culminating in a $300M exit to Cisco Systems. Since this time, Mr. Stanz has engaged in CEO, CTO, and development roles for creating social, mobile, commerce, and data analysis platforms. These projects have received national media exposure including mentions in the Rolling Stone.

Mr. Stanz currently serves on the board of Jet Genius, a charter aviation platform and holdings company, and contributes as a mentor for Canopy San Diego, an accelerator program supporting seed-stage startups.

Inventor and Development Manager of Opera Signal Set Generator (SSGen). SSGen is a Domain Specific Language (DSL) for the creation and tracking of signals on top of Big Data platforms such as Hadoop and DataRush. SSGen bridges the gap between signal description and signal definition. Thus, empowering data scientist and business analyst with the ability to create signals without the aid of software engineers. SSGen became a major component and selling point of the Opera Big Data platform (Vektor). SSGen allowed a single data scientist to create 1500+ signals (model variables) in a couple of weeks. The same task used to take multiple engineers months, using traditional Relational Algebra platforms (pig, DataRush, python).
